Throughout its existence, an information object traverses various states; due to the application of actions ensuring its survival and accessibility, the object is constantly in flux.

Data emerges from multiple sources, and is transformed from one state to another, through many phases of existence. Similarly, the environment vital for the authentic rendering of digital objects does not stay the same. The contesting demands of technology, curators, users and legislation all add complexity to the preservation of information objects over time. We inevitably add and lose properties without knowing, whilst doing what we can to retain the intellectual meaning, hoping it remains untouched.

This work can be understood to represent this struggle, the complexity of preservation processes, and the potential for the sudden flowering of data into new ideas, new knowledge.
