MobileSOM Help

MobileSOM is a prototype programmed in J2ME that allows users to browse music collections on their mobile devices. Moreover pieces of music can be streamed or the device can be used as a remote control, i.e.instead of playling a piece of music, the software triggers another device to play the song.

The MIDlet Suite MobileSOM includes three MIDlets:

 

Load Settings

To import settings from a customised URL (file:/// or http:///) or to choose between different predefined Settings start the "Load Settings" MIDlet.

Settings are stored in a configuration file with the extension .som. In such a configuration file following properties are included:

  • path to map image
  • path to map source (defines where an item is placed on the map)
  • mp3 Server
  • local mp3 directory (on device or memory card)
  • remote server (if device is used as a remote control)
  • mode (Application is used in demo(0), live(1) or remote(2) mode)
  • randomize unit items (if set to "1" items from a unit are returned randomly)
Those settings can be changed in the ChangeSettings MIDlet.

In this MIDlet Settings can be modified at runtime.

 

Map Viewer

MapViewer is the main MIDlet of the application MobileSOM. It consists of

The Map

On the map songs can be selected by drawing a path with the stylus on the device.

The Player

The AudioPlayer streams or plays audiofiles eihter on the mobile device or sends remote requests to a different device. In the latter case the player acts like a remote control.
