Social Programme

Ice Breaking

The kick-off for the conference's social programme is the Ice Breaking Event on Sunday at the conference venue. It starts at 18:30 right after the tutorials. This event is the perfect opportunity for getting in touch with people and learning to know each other in an informal atmosphere while sampling a selection of great Austrian white and red wines.

Reception

The official ECDL 2005 reception is on Monday evening, 19:30, and takes place in the Austrian National Library.

As the main scientific library of the Republic of Austria, the Austrian National Library can look back on a history rich in tradition dating to the 14th century. It is a living bridge between the rich heritage of the past and the claims of a modern informed society oriented toward the future.

After a talk held in the stunning Prunksaal the social event continues in the Aurum of the National Library.

Conference Dinner

Festsaal of Vienna's City Hall Festsaal of Vienna's City Hall Conference dinner is on Tuesday at 20:00. After an impressive walk along Vienna's Ringstrassen boulevard passing by many of Vienna's attractions you will take a tasty dinner in the splendid Festival Hall of Vienna's Rathaus (City Hall).

When it was built in the late 19th century, the Festival Hall was the biggest hall in the country. The ceiling of the hall was designed as a barrel-type vault with web compartments and raised cross ribs as decorative elements. Numerous arcades and the gallery loggia enhance the impression of vast, airy space.

On the front sides of the hall, there are two orchestra niches whose corners are decorated with relief portraits of four great composers: Mozart, Haydn, Gluck and Schubert. Brilliant lighting is provided by 16 magnificent chandeliers.
